Jul Quanouai's drawings, chiseled with a black tip like engravings, are placed under the sign of mutation, of the unexpected proliferation of lines, flat areas and dots. In tight frames and from disturbing angles, they capture hallucinated scenes in their climax whose only logic seems to relate to generalized contamination: contamination of a form by a function, of a function by a surface, of a surface by a dynamic... In this crazy universe where the movement is delirious in scenes brutally frozen by a flash of harsh light, identities disintegrate and mingle. Nothing, ever, is in its place, and there is almost nothing left of space.
Even hybridized, even threatened in their essence, things nevertheless remain as obstinate as beings. They do what they have always been told to do, they pierce, they saw, hammer, pound, destroy, they participate with the first and last of energies in a dysfunctional chaos whose violence Quanouai strives to capture as well as flexibility, the sublime as well as the grotesque. Through the restitution of slips, folds, thankless or scabrous postures, through the sensual account of fractures, tears and splashes, Jul Quanouai follows with obstinacy, in To do list, the oozing trail of pure expense.
